Notes:
St. Ewards Park is a Washington State Park located on the grounds of what was once a seminary. It's now also home to Bastyr University for the study of naturopathic medicine. The expansive grounds have playfields and children's play areas. Much of the site is forested and has a network of paths and trails and is very popular with mountain bike riders, as well as walkers. For swimming I had to descend down to the lake using the Grotto Trail (trailhead near the water tower). The lakeshore area has picnic tables and pit toilets and is the only realistic place to enter the lake. It looks to me like there has been a very active creek outflow from the Grotto as there is a nice sandy alluvial fan that extends out 15-20m from shore to a point where the bottom drops sharply away. I would guess that this is the longest undeveloped piece of shoreline anywhere on the lake so the swimming is almost other-wordly as you stroke past hundreds of meters of forested shoreline. Since I was here in the fall the scattered deciduous trees were in full fall color, adding another element of beauty. Truly a swim of a different character what with the forest walk and the house-less shoreline.
