Swim Lake Washington
A summer 2020 quest

Roanoke Landing

Home  Locations  Resources
Type: Street End
Address: 1611 Roanoke Wy, Mercer Island
Visited on: 8/23/2020

Notes:
This is a very historic spot as it was the landing site for the ferry that provided service between Mercer Island and Seattle (at Leschi) prior to the completion of the I-90 floating bridge in 1940. Several artifacts of this use remain: the primary one is the concrete wall at the end of the street, others are in the water. Unfortunately, the wall blocks land-side access to the water. You must swim there from one of the landings; I swam from the 72nd SE Landing. You will get amazing views across Lake Washington while swimming here with the tall buildings of downtown dominating the horizon above Beacon Hill.
