Calkins Point Sand Beach is the northern-most extremity of Luther Burbank Park. Unlike almost all of the Lake Washington shore this point is actually a rock shelf that extends out into the lake. And, the shelf has several large rocks sitting on top. The water is very shallow over the shelf as one either approaches or leaves the point. The beach area is nicely landscaped and the beach itself is pea gravel but not sand, as its name would imply. Still, not like the other beaches I've encountered. There is a grassy area for gathering and walking paths that wind through the park go around the lawn. A lot of Luther Burbank Park is a wetland area and Calkins Point abuts a section of this wetland area. I have to add that the swim here from Lincoln Landing was exceptionally beautiful with more restrained-looking expensive homes, some with natural beachfronts instead of manicured lawns.
